But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand. – Isaiah 64:8
There have been so many ideas and inspirational happenings the last two weeks to attempt to mold a blog, but it was the actual molding by the youngest that caught my attention. Try as she might, she just couldn’t get her attempt to mold a taller jar out of her lump of clay – very similar to the pushing and molding of my 45-year-old bod to somehow transform into my former 20s. Hmm…some things you just can’t mold into properly firm shapes.
As I watched her try and try and try to work her little potter hands, that clay just wouldn’t budge. The end result…a blob (albeit a good looking one). Watching her immediately brought my attention to Isaiah 64:8. Our Good Father is constantly nudging and molding and attempting to bring our gaze back to Him and how often we are just the blob.
I believe we are all on the Potter’s wheel throughout our lifetime. I don’t think we reach our final stages of what the Potter has deemed as His masterpiece until the end – our day of completion. What’s important is if we allow the Potter to do His molding. Some times in life, I have been very eager and ready for God to mold, lead, and direct where (or what shape) He needs me to be or what He needs me to do. Other times, I am just like that clumpy, bumpy clay – I’m not ready for the wheel to even start turning. Even worse are the days I may look like everything is perfect outside and ready for the kiln, but on the inside there are bubbles and pockets that need smoothed out and perfected, or I’ll never make it through the heat of the kiln. It’s moments of blobbing but a lifetime of molding to get to that perfect vase.
Friends, you’re not perfect. Nobody is until their day of completion. Stop striving and start becoming. Allow God, our Potter, to mold you into the beautiful creation He knows you are.
The Potter is always working. He is always spinning the wheel, prepping the water, and holding His works so perfectly to make sure it spins and molds just right. He has you.
Sukey’s creation is still a work in progress, but she refuses to give up on it. Friends, your still a work in progress, and I promise, our Potter isn’t giving up on you either.
XOXO, Loni – a little bit lumpy work in progress
