While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He? – Matthew 22:41-42

This. This question is everything. As followers of Christ, it is THIS question that we hang our entire faith. I have been slowly making my way through the entire new testament in a year but also attempting (it is a rather slow and horrible attempt) to live every day to my word(s) for this year: ROOTED IN DISCIPLINE.

I started a plan through a bible app a few weeks ago called “100 Days of Discipline”. Today had me reading Matthew 22. I have read the book of Matthew before but today, it was like verses 41-42 jumped off the pages. Jesus had just gone through intense insincere questioning from the Pharisees and Sadducees in an attempt (also lame – kind of like my attempt to also discipline my eating habits) to trick Jesus. Jesus then has the opportunity to question them – no tricks. “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?”

Our entire faith is based around these questions. And then it was like the Holy Spirit quietly in my heart asked, what do you think about Jesus? My heart could have exploded. What do I think about the Messiah? The one who paid it all? The one who stole my heart years ago to love and peace and joy that only He could have provided. What do I think about Him, friends?

I think that He is more than able. I think that He is my rock and my fortress – my refuge. I think that He lifts me up and comforts me at 2:00AM prayers when I am crying out to Him for peace and understanding in the darkest of moments. I think He is the one who cheers me on as I rise early and do dishes, and laundry, and meal prep, and all the things because I don’t feel like it for the umpteenth time this week, but I know I serve a God who gave it all and paid it all, and so what’s one more dish? I think He loves me more. I think He is the one who provides immeasurably more than I could ever dream or ask for. I think He alone saves – He is the risen One. He is the Son of God. And what is even greater is that I don’t think these things, I know these things.

Today, take some time today, to think about Who you say He is, Who you think He is, Who you KNOW He is and relish in the Son of God.
