Rise UP and Wise UP

Forgotten . . .

I love, love, love Psalm 13. It’s a psalm of David. David is in a place of doubt, wrestling, sorrow, and he is wondering if God has forgotten him.

What I love about David and have been clinging to most of the summer in these Psalms, is that David is just a man. He’s an authentic sinner. When he tries to hide his sin, he knows God knows. When he tries to flee, he knows God can find him. When he attempts to fix the error of his ways, he knows that only God can fix all that is broken. When he feels alone and forgotten, God is there. I love the word ‘but’. This little conjunction is a contrasting word to what has already been stated. David can feel all the feels . . . but.

What David feels and what David knows are completely different. He feels alone. He feels abandoned. He feels exhausted and worn out from the fight. He feels forgotten. BUT. But David trusts in what he knows. He knows God’s unfailing love. He knows God’s salvation. He knows he can sing God’s praises. He knows God has been good to him.

Friends, I don’t know if you have ever felt abandoned, alone, forgotten. In many quiet seasons, I know I have. I wonder, where are you, God? What is the next plan, Father? I wrestle with the thoughts of the unknown and what God has next. Are you there, Lord? How long, Lord? And the lists of questions and doubts and abandonment come to a crushing crescendo when I look up and say: but.

But I trust in His unfailing love. I trust in His salvation and my heart leaps for joy when I think of it. I sing (always) of His praise and mercy and grace. I know that God has been so good to me, is so good to me, and will always be so good to me. He never leaves me nor forsakes me. God is good.

Lift your eyes. Look upon the Father and not on your circumstances and feelings. Know that God is good. Trust His beautiful words. He has, is, and will always be so, so good, friend. He has not and will not forget you. He made you, and He will never forget His most beautiful creation.

XOXO, Loni
